Departing from Los Quejigales, we continue about 500 m. more
to along the river populated by an orchard of Pine trees. Here begins
the unending ascension by the Cañada del Cuervo, where we
can begin to see a beautiful forest full of Spanish firs, as the
guide takes us up higher still. Following this road, in a short
time we reach the Puerto de los Pilones. Continuing on the
same road we reach the top where we find a windy road that crosses
a plateau at an altitude of 1.7000 m. This area is full of great
beauty with gall oaks that transmit a magical feeling. Continuing
along this path we will begin to observe the clear figure of the
Peñón de los Enamorados, 1.775 m. high, that is in front
of us. We reach the base and after a short climb we arrive at the
summit, from where we have an excellent, panoramic view of the entire
area.
In
Los Quejigales we find the Refugio Félix Rodríguez de la
Fuente, and a camping zone owned by The Agency of the Environment.
Next we come upon one of the deepest caves in the world, with a
profundity of 1.100 m., called Gems abyss. Although this
excursion is available year-round, it can be difficult in the summer
because of the heat and in the winter because of the cold and ice.
In the winter, the path disappears completely and appropriate apparel
is necessary; boots, winter coat, etc.
